    Question: how did you make sure all plates had the same alignment, and how was the process of drawing and preparing the other plates? This wasn't in the video. I assume all plates with the same size, and using other transfer papers for each area? Did you have the coloured illustration before, or was it made above a photograph directly?

    Beautiful! How are your pencils so dark? Do you press hard when you draw?

    • @ateliersento

      It’s because they are 8B pencils. They’re darker than usual ones, but the downside is that they’re nearly impossible to erase. So we use them for “inking”, never for drawing.

    Amazing ! I love ukiyo-e and maybe you showed me an alternative way to make some. The material for the mokuhanga (woodblock japanese/chinese method) is so expensive and the techniques to print is not easy. That said, I don't know how much cost the material you used ^^ ... I have a question, can we make graduate colors (called bokashi for japanese prints) with Linocut ? And can we use any papers ? (like washi )

    • @ateliersento
      @ateliersento Рік тому

      Thank you for your comment! The material I used was quite cheap. I’m not sure about graduate colors since I’ve never tried it myself. I think you can use any paper. The best is to make some quick printing tests with different papers to find the one you like the best.

    I am so thrilled to have discovered both your beautiful work! You simply can't get any better than traditionally made comics (especially in watercolor!). I do have a technical nerdy question, if I may! How do you decide the "live area" of the pages you're working on? And how do you ensure that the word bubbles and panel spacing will scale from the storyboards to the finished pages to the final printing of the book?

    • @ateliersento
      @ateliersento Рік тому

      Thank you for your kind words! The best way to decide the live area and bubble sizes from the storyboard is to print a few pages at the final size so you can see if it feels right. Another good idea would to choose some published comics you like, scan a page, superimpose it to your page and use it as a reference for the font size and panel spacing. Hope it helps!

    • @cgsales559

    • @ateliersento
      @ateliersento Рік тому

      Bonjour Tony. Pour la taille des planches, ça dépend : sur Onibi on était en A5 mais, pour les BDs suivantes, on est passé en A4. Pour nous, le plus confortable reste A4. Plus grand, c’est trop de travail. Mais chaque dessinateur a un format sur lequel il se sent à l’aise. Certains travaillent sur des feuilles immenses ! Dans tous les cas, on doit effectivement tailler le crayon toutes les deux minutes pour que la pointe reste bien affûtée. N’hésite pas si tu as d’autres questions.

    Fantastic illustration. I really like your diy lightbox as it is similar to mine. I have turned to a lightbox a small round bamboo coffee table with a glass top and I do the exact same thing. I place a desk light under it. Why did you mask the edges with masking fluid instead of masking tape? Masking fluid is more expensive than tape and a bit more troublesome to apply it in such large areas. I would suggest to use a brush wash container that is somewhat lower and with wider rim. This bottle like container that you've used to wash your brushes look to me like an upcoming disaster. It is very easy to flip it over and splatter everything on your desk. The best type of containers to wash brushes are the pet bowls that are made in such a way that can not capsize no matter what.

    • @ateliersento
      @ateliersento Рік тому

      Thanks for your advice. You’re right about the masking fluid. We have stopped using it for such large areas. It wasn’t working that well… And our brush wash container too is better now. We have learned a lot during the past years… That’s the best part of making art!
